Project PACK

by kaudette on March 17, 2014

Every 2 ½ minutes, somewhere in the United States,
someone is sexually assaulted.

(calculated based on the National Crime Victimization Survey 2004)

Project PACK Inc. is a non-profit organization that assembles and distributes Post-Assault Comfort Kits to survivors of sexual assault throughout Massachusetts. These kits are given to survivors of sexual assault during the evidence collection process at the hospital.

When the sexual assault nurse examiner begins collecting the evidence of the assault, the survivor cannot leave the exam room due to chain of custody and evidence issues. These kits are located within the exam room and are given to the survivor at the beginning of the collection process, which can take upwards of four hours to complete.

Outreach Education and The BSU Peer Educators are hosting a Project PACK collection for the month of March, to assist in the creation of Post-Assault Comfort Kits. Outreach Education has placed collection baskets at various locations on campus.

Since starting this program on campus the BSU Community has come together to donate 300 complete kits and enough materials to create an additional 200 kits when combined with donations from other groups.

Post-Assault Comfort Kits include the following items:

Individually Wrapped: toothbrush, panty liner, wet wipe

Travel Size: toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, lotion, tissues

Lip balm, comb/brush, hair elastic, underwear (often taken into evidence), socks

You can donate the above items at the following locations through 3.31.14:
