You should be very proud that your hard work and long hours of studying has paid off. Effort and passion is necessary to achieve your dreams and career goals. Take this time to celebrate your success with your family and friends. Also, remember that your hard work isn’t over when you graduate. This is a time for major change in your life as you adapt to life after college which can include a full time job or continuing on to graduate school. Whatever your path may be, be sure to carry with you the knowledge, friendships, and experiences you have encountered at Bridgewater State University.

What is next after graduation?

As you are celebrating your success, you may be questioning what is next. This is quite normal during any major transitional period in your life. It may feel like a stressful time to try to make the “right” decisions that will impact your path in life. Take a moment to fully enjoy your success after all the hard work of the past four years. This is the beginning of a bright future for you and your peers. Take the time to create achievable life goals over the next five, ten, or twenty years. This plan will help you focus your efforts in order to continue your success in life.

Tips for success after graduation

  1. Find a job or continue your education. This is a major decision. The decision will be made based on your career goals and current financial situation. If you are looking for a full time job, remember that it may take some time to find the perfect position. Keep your options open because your first job will likely not be your last job. Be sure to update your resume, network with different people, and practice your interview skills. 2. Create a budget. A budget is important to manage your finances. This is one of the most useful habits you will use in your life. Be sure to list all of your income and expenses throughout the month to determine how much to save and how much extra spending money you might have.
  3. Build an emergency fund. It’s important to have an emergency fund since you can never tell when an emergency will occur. These funds will help prevent you from using other sources of funds, such as credit cards or personal loans.
  4. Set up a plan to pay off your debt. Make it a priority to pay off credit cards or student loan debt in the shortest period possible. Try to pay off the debt with the highest interest rate first and try to pay more than the minimum payment. These strategies will save you more money in the long run.
  5. Plan for your future and retirement. Although retirement may seem like a long time off, it’s never too early to start a retirement fund. Over the years, these funds will build up with interest and investments. This will provide you more freedom for when you can actually retire and to enjoy retirement comfortably.
